Idineklarang 'fit to take part in the pre-trial proceedings' si dating Pangulong Rodrigo R. Duterte ng Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) ngayong Lunes, Enero 26.
Batay ito sa medikal na pagsusuri ng tatlong independent experts, ayon sa mga ito, may kakayahan si Duterte na ipagtanggol ang sarili at gamitin ang kaniyang procedural rights sa korte.
Kaya naman, ipagpapatuloy ng ICC ang pre-trial proceedings laban sa dating pangulo.
‘The Chamber was satisfied that Mr Duterte is able effectively to exercise his procedural rights and is therefore fit to take part in the pre-trial proceedings, which are thereby resumed,’ ayon sa ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I.
Kaugnay nito, itinakda ng ICC ang confirmation of charges hearing sa Pebrero 23.
Magugunitang inaresto si Duterte noong Marso 11, 2025, matapos itong dumating mula Hong Kong, alinsunod sa warrant of arrest na inilabas ng ICC.
Ilang buwan matapos ang pagkaaresto, sinubukan ng defense team ni Duterte na ipagpaliban ang mga pagdinig dahil sa umano'y problema sa kaniyang kalusugan.
